W.O.W. DAY Will Be February 12, 2010. We Need Your Help!!

The PTSA 21st annual W.O.W. Day was held Friday, February 12, 2010 from 11am until the end of the normal school day. W.O.W. (Widening Our World) is a career day event that provides information about careers and practical knowledge. The day has an impact on students long after they graduate from Plum Grove.

What you can talk to your child about: This day is all about helping our children understand that there are many potential careers awaiting them. . . and . . . that they are responsible for their planning out and achieving career success!

We will start out the WOW day experience with a truly special assembly speaker who will inspire our students with a message that you can achieve anything you put your mind to. Our speaker, Mark Stephan, 51, an accomplished businessman and athlete fractured his C2/C3 vertebrae August 11, 2007 damaging his spinal cord. Doctors initially did not think he would ever be able to walk again. However, he proved them wrong. This past November, he climbed to the top of the Willis Tower in the annual SkyRaise event. The students will see the following video clip during his assembly talk: View here

We have also been busy securing over 35 speakers from our community. Many thanks to all the parents who are volunteering their time to present to the students. Your child will have an opportunity to see 4 of these presentations. Here is a partial list of careers that will be represented on February 12:

We need people who can work 11:30am - 2:30pm the day of the event (Feb. 12, 2010). This is a perfect opportunity for those of you who have always wanted to volunteer, but have never done so. If you or someone you know may be interested in volunteering, please contact Barb Downing, PTA President, at: bldowning@comcast.net
